Take Advantage of the New Executive Deferred Action Programs

On November 20, 2014, President Barack Obama announced a series of executive actions that his administration will take to drastically reform the way in which the U.S. immigration system works.  The most exciting and significant of these changes is an expansion of the Department of Homeland Security's "deferred action" policy toward many immigrants who lack legal status.

In addition to announcing broader eligibility requirements for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, the government will also establish the Deferred Action for Parental Accountability (DAPA) program.  Under the DAPA program, immigrants without lawful status will have the chance to be protected from deportation, get work permits and social security numbers, and they should also be able to get driver's licenses.
